Hello all! I know it's been more than a few days, but I promise I haven't been slacking off the whole time. I've been finishing all the prebuilts for the remaining 9 races, which was surprisingly time-consuming! It's also not terribly photogenic, so I didn't really have anything to post for a teaser. However, now they are all done, and new players will have a bevy of premade choices for every race to choose from, which will hopefully help funnel them into productive builds and ensure they have fun. Part of that is easing the burden on the community to hold their hand every step of the way. Therefore, I'm implementing a tutorial "quest" (think Morrowind, not Skyrim) to help guide them through the basics of getting their character off the ground. We've received tons of feedback on the new player experience, and I think this is going to address most of the issues in a way that doesn't necessarily take away from the experience of the game, or advantage players who know how to play the game, since they're almost certainly going to be customizing their characters and thereby opting out of this entirely. I'll cover more detail on it later, but for now, I'll just go over the basic guardrails and QOL features:

  1. If you try to learn from a skillbook that isn't in your skill plan before you finish it, you'll get an extra confirm prompt warning you not to do this.
  2. You'll receive a guaranteed, character-bound novice skillbook in your primary skill by scrounging in a ruins location.
  3. A little quest widget in your GUI will encourage you to find this skillbook, and to complete your skill plan.

In the beta, most scrounged skill books will be acquirable only through traveling to and scrounging the appropriate ruins, so this will condition the next generation of players towards doing this instead of expecting the Library to cough them up, and ease the burden on novice skill books. I may add more build-specific quests as well if they seem needed!
