Hello all! Here is the 2026 roadmap for Farwoods:

  • Website redesign
  • Website: Modmail and OOC direct messaging
  • Website: Account and character management
  • New event system, integrated into the game, website, and forums
  • Expanded moderator & GM team
  • Dragging of items and characters
  • Bees, honey, and apiculture
  • Cooking overhaul + new recipes
  • Alcohol brewing
  • Soap and bathing
  • Diseases (colds, ticks, fleas, etc.)
  • New dyeing mechanics
  • 15+ new Scrounging items
  • 3+ new Mining items
  • 6+ new Herbalism items
  • Full tutorial for prebuilt character classes
  • Character ages, in-game calendar tracking
  • Second open alpha period begins
  • Instruments and song mechanics
  • 3+ new skills (incl. Archaeology)
  • Magic overhaul + new spells
  • New tileset, with seasons
  • New mining node sprites, tweaked reward system
  • Initial beta map testing
  • New racial sprites and animations
  • Detailed popup character sprites with equipment
  • New UI, replace all placeholder sprites
We are NOT aiming for beta this year. However, we would like to implement a limited run of Archaeology and see how the mechanics we have planned play out before we do a character wipe and progress to beta. This will likely take place on a smaller or at least much simpler version of the beta map without most of the landmarks (in part so you'll all get to enjoy discovering them in beta without being spoiled!).

Applications for moderator and GM positions will open once the website changes are complete. These will be limited, junior positions to build trust and gain experience, so temper your expectations.

There is still no planned date for the next open alpha period other than 2026. We will announce it at least a week in advance, possibly more, but you'll know when we're getting close.
