I was considering making some tweaks to my Pantheon-themed playlist and it occurred to me I could make a thread for it. :3

What kind of music do you guys enjoy listening to while playing Farwoods?  Are there songs you associate with your character, or even have you made playlists of your own?  Feel free to share!

Currently I have made two Farwoods-specific playlists, one for my character Harris, and one that represents each member of the Pantheon!

I'd say up to track 21 is the bulk of 'chronological' storytelling, then its mostly instrumentals random stuff I added later for more variety when I put it on shuffle.  I don't have a full break down, but many of the songs included relate to specific RP scenes and relationships.

(I may end up making a YouTube version at some point for ease of sharing, but I tend to use an offline version personally)

Other recommendations:

If its not obvious, I'm a pretty big fan of Louie Zong lol.  The variety of his instrumentals make for good filler.  He even has an EP inspired by Wind in the Willows so sometimes I'll just listen to that a bunch.  When he does do songs with lyrics they're usually really goofy and fun, so that's big Harris energy there. 

The Crane Wives, are also a band I like a lot, lyrically, instrumentally, and vocally just interesting storytelling and have songs that really hit for more intense emotions.

Vashti Bunyan is like the yearner of all time, really nice for softer, quieter moments.  Often sad, but sometimes more whimsical and naturey. 

And an honorable mention for this Fantasy Town Music Pack (itch.io link) I happened to get as part of a charity bundle on itch.io. I like it quite a bit, and it does have This is Farwoods Now stamp in my head but admittedly $30 regular price might be a bit steep if you aren't planning on making a game with it imo. If you are they type to get bundles on itch.io though, might double check if any bundles included it.

I like Yaelokre, Cosmo Sheldrake, and Fish in a Birdcage too ^^ Its not actually on my Farwoods playlist but I'm fond of Cosmo Sheldrake's cover of Green Grass.  

I think if any warrior cats or animation meme fans have heard Vashti Bunyan casually they may have come across Moonkitti's Once I Had PMV that uses the song Here Before.   Its from the Lookaftering album which I feel like I have definitely listened to in full during at least a few play sessions.  Against the Sky and Feet of Clay especially hit hard in different ways.  Winter is Blue is the song of hers I have on Harris' playlist and apparently was my most played song of the year lol (its quite short and I find most of her songs from Just a Diamond Day soothing to fall asleep to, and I used to play it at a bookshop I worked at all the time too).  I'm also fond of Swallow Song, Rose Hip November, and I'd Like to Walk Around in Your Mind from Just a Diamond Day.  I'm pretty sure I quoted the Walk Around Your Mind in one of Harris' letters before. 

Louie Zong I feel like overall is more of a lighthearted kind of artist but he plays around with a lot of different genres and inspirations so if you dig around you might find some surprising stuff. His Wind in the Willows EP I mentioned is called In The Willows- Lookfar.  For Farwoods specifically I also like a lot of tracks from Tales from The Disc (Discworld Album) and form Beyond The Edge of the World (Dungeon Synth).  But I recommend everyone listen to Cheesy Street from Rat Taxi because its very goofy and fun. Anxiety Groove (on Harris' playlist) and MY FATHER'S SACRED SWORD also gives a a feel of the humor he brings to his songs lol. 

Man Rabbitology seems like a band I'd be really into.. Will definitely be checking more out.  Kinda reminds me of aeseaes which I listened to more early during the vampire event, particularly their Shapeshifter album. Carrion Comfort and Bloodsucker especially.  

I sometimes went back to my Pathfinder character playlists if I needed to mix things up and remembered Fleet Foxes exists.  That whole self titled album is great, Ragged Wood is my pick for a recommendation. 

Oo I like a lot of the mentioned musicians too, especially Fleet Foxes and Vashti Bunyan…

For the first question, while playing I would usually listen to soundtracks and instrumental compilations. I really like the OST to Might and Delight's games, made by Retro Family I believe? Especially the Paws: A Shelter 2 Game OST (Dazed and Confused is probably my favorite). Book of Travels OST also feels fitting for a game like Farwoods. 
For compilations, the Blue Turtle channel has a lot of really good ones (and positions itself as not using ai thankfully). The Campfire – Fantasy Music for Inspiration video was on repeat for so many sessions for me. I also really like the Coastal Village one.
Balmorhea also have a lot of beautiful instrumental music.

For character songs, Blue Ridge Mountains by Fleet Foxes, Bird of the Blizzard and Silver Birch from Spell Songs, Sisters by Radical Face are very fitting.

One of my favorite artists, I love Holy Branches a lot too, and the whole The Family Tree: The Roots album is something else.

The whole Shelter series has a beautiful artistic direction, I definitely recommend checking it out (these games can be very emotional though).

I also saw one of my favorite songs in the Pantheon playlist (Lord Huron - Vide Noir), excellent pick for Morothi. And since both Yaelokre and aeseaes got mentioned, the Harpy Hare lullaby version by aeseaes is wonderful.

Skimming over Harris' playlist to remind myself what's actually on there.  Its definitely got this jarring mix of silly goofy whimsical but then like.. Sad girl indie lol.  Might be slightly less chronological than I remembered it being, or just some songs have an overlap of characters or situations they apply to but gonna pick out a few that I have thoughts about.

Deadlock by Go! Child opens his playlist. It takes the idea of forgetting a password and with burnout (or some other struggle) and finding determination to try again. 

The title of his playlist 'I'll always follow you around' is a lyric from sundog by SNAKE POOL, so that's a really striking song for me. It just gives me a sense of like a cloying, almost desperate loyalty/devotion. Clinging to even a scrap of belonging.   dog by waveform* and dog cuddles by dad sports kind of have a similar vibe to me so they sort of reiterate the theme a few songs later.

Ravens by Reno Shaw and the previously mentioned Winter is Blue by Vashti Bunyan make me think of dibbun era Harris, that winter was rough on the little guy.  (Though Ravens encompasses a passage of time/other seasons too)

Pearlberry by slycmynk is just this really cute head empty kind of instrumental, like frolicking and scrounging yippee.  There is bit that speeds up so in my head that's a 'wait what was that.' moment but then it keeps going so oh well nevermind~  Most songs by Louie Zong and leon chang on the playlist are also instrumentals.

New Year's Eve by Mal Blume is a bit less specific to Harris but its a falling out song that still screams end of the Enchantress event to me, which he was in proximity to.

What do You Want From Me Tonight? by Sidney Gish and Hard Sell by The Crane Wives are both these self-defeating songs so that's more of the Struggler Struggling.  (Anxiety Groove being a more comedic take on this theme)

DEBT COLLECTOR by Jhariah, signs by SNAKE POOL, and Charlie's Inferno by That Handsome Devil, and Dancing Devil by Small Ships Leak Ships all revolve around his conflict with Dusk. (though I could picture other possible applications)  DEBT COLLECTOR is like the perfect chase scene song, boy landed himself in big trouble. I do really like Jhariah's big bombastic sound on that album in general.  signs could be more general feelings about him wanting to protect someone but it most strongly applies to him crashing out over Song. Also a lyric about rockslides... yes... Charlie's Inferno is an absolute earworm, really fun and bouncy, feels like a devil is narrating it and delighting/making fun of Charlie's situation.  Found it from a Mapleshade PMV and usually end up replaying it several times a day when it comes up lol.  Its not an exact match (the song maybe implies more of a hypocrite masking as a 'good person')  but does remind me of him just really putting his foot in his mouth and ending up in more trouble.  

Dancing Devil has overlap with other Foolish Harris moments, just yoinked that one off of my low wisdom bard's playlist lol. 

Wall of Stones and Room's Half Remembered, both nice instrumentals from Louie Zong but the titles tell a bit of story so they feel right here.  Empty Stage by New Poetics is a bittersweet kind of love song(?) and I associate it with Harris and Song.

Reverse by Minimall I think brings a little more hopefulness into the list, though it does still have a melancholic edge. It feels more hopeful than Doubtful by Gregory and the Hawk to me, which has a similar 'wish things could go back to how there were, but this is what we've got now' kind of song, but that may just be the tone? Because lyrically Doubtful might actually be the more hopeful one 'How did we get like this? Where can we go from here?' vs 'I wish we could start things over but I'm accepting this and letting it go' (probably the healthier mindset sometimes though lol). 

The River by Fievel is Glauque, Peace Like Rivers (Live) by Gregory and the Hawk, and maybe Airplane Graveyard by Small Ships Leak Ships make me think of Harris during the finale and aftermath of the Vampire event.  I feel like I might need to revisit Gregory and the Hawk's discography. She's one of those artists I found from a random youtube recommendation and ended up loving for a long time now, especially the album Moenie and Kitchi. A lot of her songs have this vulnerable quality that reminds me of Harris.
